What Makes a Successful Grant Application? – Intergenerational Garden Project

In a new series showcasing successful grant applications, we look at Heidi Albin, GetEdFunding subscriber and high school teacher at Complete High School Maize in Kansas. Heidi won the Growing Communities: Modeling School and Community Collaborations for Specialty Crops grant from the Kansas Department of Agriculture.

Heidi’s proposal was for a community garden at her high school where students could learn to grow their own food. After winning the grant, Heidi was able to fulfill her goal to create a garden that is handicap accessible. Elementary classrooms can reserve plots in the garden area and high school students work with the elementary children to help them garden. Additionally, Heidi invites nursing home residents to garden with the students in this intergenerational project.
