The American Honda Foundation supports education with a specific focus on the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM); the environment; job training; and literacy. It engages in grant making that reflects the basic tenets, beliefs, and philosophies of Honda companies, which are characterized by the following qualities: imaginative, creative, youthful, scientific, humanistic, and innovative.

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation Youth Literacy Grants provide funding to schools, public libraries, and nonprofit organizations to help students who are below grade level or experiencing difficulty reading. Grant funding is provided to assist in the following areas:

  • Implementing new or expanding existing literacy programs.
  • Purchasing new technology or equipment to support literacy initiatives.
  • Purchasing books, materials, or software for literacy programs.

Funding is provided to support programs in kindergarten through grade 12 that are designed to boost students’ mathematics and science skills. At the university level, Shell supports programs that aid engineering and geoscience students and departments.

Additionally, these experiences help middle and high school students develop the skills they will need in order to become tomorrow’s problem solvers. Programs that Connect A Million Minds supports include after-school programs, mentorship programs, exhibits, competitions, science fairs, and apprenticeship programs related to STEM.
