The Together Counts Healthy Playground Makeover Sweepstakes is an annual competition that invites entries on behalf of US schools and nonprofit early childhood learning centers. All winners are selected by random drawing. Two grand prizewinners receive cash and prizes to improve each school’s wellness programs, as well as a new playground provided by the sweepstakes cosponsor, Playworld Systems. Three runner-up schools win second prize and receive materials to enhance their wellness programs.

The foundation has helped more than 1,000 schools across the country create reading gardens, build playgrounds and implement other improvement projects that help strengthen their schools and their communities.

AAUW, through its Community Action Grants Program, provides funds to individuals, AAUW branches and AAUW state organizations, and local community-based nonprofit organizations for innovative programs or nondegree research projects that promote education and equality for women and girls. Special consideration is given to projects focused on kindergarten through grade 12 and community college girls’ and women’s achievement in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics, and to those projects that seek community partners such as local schools or school districts, businesses, and other community-based organizations.
