American Honda Foundation Education Grants

The American Honda Foundation supports education with a specific focus on the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM); the environment; job training; and literacy. It engages in grant making that reflects the basic tenets, beliefs, and philosophies of Honda companies, which are characterized by the following qualities: imaginative, creative, youthful, scientific, humanistic, and innovative.

Deadline: For new applicants, August 1 and February 1, annually; for returning applicants, May 1, annually

The Westerman Foundation provides grants for education projects and youth programs primarily to Catholic prekindergarten through grade 12 schools and colleges, as well as other Christian organizations in the United States and programs which provide assistance to the poor and the abused.

Music Education Grants

Mockingbird Foundation

The Mockingbird Foundation offers grants to public schools and nonprofit organizations to support projects in music education. The foundation funds projects that foster creative expression and promote self-esteem in any musical form (including composition, instrumentation, vocalization, or improvisation), and encourages applications associated with diverse or unusual musical styles, genres, forms, and philosophies. Grants may be used to obtain instruments, texts, and other materials, and for the support of learning space, practice space, performance space, and instructors or instruction.

Deadline: August 1, annually

Kettering Family Foundation

The Kettering Family Foundation awards two annual grants to nonprofit organizations. Primary areas of support include arts, culture, and humanities; environment; health and medical; human services; public and society benefit; and education. Recently supported programs include student financial assistance at the Institute for Shipboard Education in Charlottesville, Virginia, and operating support for the Center for School Success in West Lebanon, New Hampshire.

Deadline: January 31 and June 31, annually

 

Community Grants

American Legion Child Welfare Foundation

The American Legion Child Welfare Foundation, Inc. supports innovative projects and the dissemination of knowledge contributing to the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual welfare of children. Recent grants supported interactive experiences between children and veterans to reinforce classroom learning; hotline services for troubled teenagers; toolkits to plan grassroots fundraising events; child abuse prevention educational materials; services for children with disabilities; and programs advocating healthy lifestyles, diet, and exercise.
